What is root canal treatment?

Before starting with the procedure, our dentist will take an X-ray of the infected tooth to check the depth of the infection. If the pulp is infected, then our dentist will suggest you for the removal of infected pulp through root canal treatment. Before starting with the procedure they will use local anesthesia to numb the area. There may be some symptoms like swelling, toothache, and discoloration which clearly indicates that the pulp is infected.

The pale yellow colored sticky film of bacteria which is also called as plaque will start developing over the tooth if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. The bacteria in the plaque gets a feed from the food what we eat and starts releasing the acids which can erode the teeth. You may start a sense of a toothache as well as tooth sensitivity when the cavity grows deeper into the tooth and reaches the pulp.

How is root canal treatment carried out?

When a tooth is damaged or decayed, our dentist will check the extent of the damage using a number of dental instruments and equipment. If the extent of the damage or decay went deeper, then X-rays of a tooth must be taken to check the status of the pulp. There will be some symptoms like swelling, toothache, or discolouration can also indicate the infection of pulp. If the pulp is damaged, then our dentist will recommend removing the infected pulp which will be performed by giving local anesthesia.

The infected pulp will be taken off the tooth by making a drill and the canals are cleaned using a dental file. Leftover bacterias have to be cleaned using an anti-bacterial agent. Later pulp chamber is sealed with a suitable material to keep the tooth filled and strong. Our restorative dentist Dr. Sukhminder S. Buttar will place a crown over the root canaled tooth to protect the tooth from future damage and also prevents a toothache, tooth sensitivity, and other disorders.
